Comics in Kenya

We’ve been in Kenya for the last week, and have been honored to work with talented activists from Uganda, Zimbabwe, and Kenya.  This is the first time the School for Creative Activism has traveled to Africa, and it’s been an incredible experience.

One of the participants showed us a project he’s worked on for the Aids Law Project, based in Nairobi, Kenya.  This publication addresses the ramifications of an intellectual property law that would threaten access to life-saving affordable generic medications.  We loved it because it uses images, stories, and flashes of utopia to make sense of a complex problem – something that could be lost in jargon is made human and real with the use of a popular art form.  Check out the comic booklet here.
